Analysing Double Page Spead
By analysing this double page spread you can tell that the theme of these pages just by looking at them are heavy metal/rock music. With their long black hair, heavy make-up and the general black and white theme to the page. The expression on their faces is almost emotionless and the use of red in the page symbolises blood as this genre is known to self harm themselves. The text used is to the point and can come across rude and uses language that is not appropriate to the younger age group. The name of the band itself shows that it is not a happy theme at all they use the work 'murder' in their name and the word dolls is a contrast of this as dolls are usually played with by young innocent happy girls. So the name seems like it is killing all things sweet and innocent which is not a nice thing to think about, along with the black background puts a downer on the page, so it shows it does not want the target audience to be a happy group also it is written in a font that looks like it has been destroyed. Also the slogan says 'two's company' which means the target audience wants to be alone, they like to be on their own so again shows that the target audience is not a social group of people. Finally the text used is small in two columns and is written in white so it can clearly be read with what looks like a ripped up piece of paper in the middle to show the informal side to the article and how it is not clean and chic.
        Developing my Double Page Spread

finally i started to add the text but at this point i did not think about how big the text would be when i printed it out as an actual A3 size so then i printed this to test for the size of the text and realised it was way to big so then had to think about how the text would look better. e.g in 3 columns.
i then coloured in the title using the bucket tool.
i started by editing my image so it was brighter and stands out more then i added other pictures from my photoshoot to use as little images that are like photobooth shots and then i added a title to the double page spread so the audience know briefly what the article is about.

Intertextuality
what would my band be interested in?
The artist i have created is a lot like Rihanna, the edgy side to her. She wears skimpy outfits revealing a lot of flesh and she has heavy make up and embellished clothing. There image is portrayed as sexy.
I have created my artists interests to similar to my target audiences interests so therefore the audience can relate to Amy Jane with their similar characteristics.
My artist will be a very social person, she loves going out but does not put a bad image across of herself. But as she is portrayed in a sexual manner she should not appeal to the younger age group as it is not appropriate.

Generic Research

video of process taken to place pictures on the double page spread.

Developments for my front cover
I then thought that that text did not look right so got rid of it altogether and created a new text which also had hints of 3D to it to make it stand out a bit more and be more eye catching and attractive.

So then i changed to the font that was most popular with my target audience and added extra text to the front cover is the same shade to the 'Amy Jane' text.

This was the font i started out with to represent Amy Jane but i felt that it was too girly and too bright and contrasted the front cover to much and asked my target audience if they thought it was attractive and gave them a few fonts to look and and they preferred a different font.

Youth Subcultures
A group of individuals whoa re united through a common value system and tastes (clothes, music, brands etc.)
A group who are also different from the mainstream. the postmodern world is full of diversity, dynamism and creativity. there is no generalisation of everyone.
Hybrid subcultures are a mix of two or more subcultures together.
People may also switch subcultures for example appear to conform for most of the working week, but re-enter the subculture at specific time (weekend, festivals etc.)
Pop music industry does not create long-lasting subcultures - it struggles to keep up with young values and groups.

History of music press (continued on from powerpoint)
Rolling Stone was created in the 1960's was a fortnightly publication which contained a mixture of current affairs, coverage of recent music and celebrity interviews.
1970's brought glam rock then prog rock.
Then NME changed its style to bring in punk.
1978 Smash Hits was produced, which made pop music come into fashion and changed the main fashion.
1980's independant music was released with loads of new music magazines being produced and lots of different styles of music not only h select few.
1990's music videos became a hit and MTV was produced and to this day many magazine and types of music are available the industry just keeps getting larger and larger.

PICTURES FOR THE FRONT COVER OF MY MAGAZINE

I have chosen not to use this picture as although it is a very happy shot of a student with her books I feel the next picture is more appropriate as she is laughing so shows a more natural friendly environment for people who do not know the school very well or at all. Both of the pictures also have a natural feel to them as the back ground is of a
large tree that she is standing under i also had some of her sitting under the tree but there was not much of her body it was mainly a face and some feet in the picture. The books and folders in her hand symbolise that she is in a school environment and she is a hard worker but is also having fun at the same time with the expression on her face.

CONTENTS PAGE BACKGROUND

This picture is of a student smiling in a tree this picture is perfect for the contents page as again it keeps the theme of a happy, smiley environment but is again in a natural environment and they lanyard around his neck represents that he is in school. He is also wearing a shirt and has clean cut hair so shows a smart student in schooling. Both my students i am using for my magazines are healthy looking as they look smart and have subtle make up and shaven. Whilst wearing respectable and suitable clothing for the school environment.

These texts have a range of styles the top three are old school text which is appropriate to schools if they are old schools and want to keep tradition running and look professional. the next text is just plain simple block text which is unoriginal but loved by all and the forth text is more of a cartoon text which represents a more non academic magazine and more of a chatty magazine finally the last text represents the title of achieve with the bright lights to show you can make it to the top of stardom. this also represents a chatty magazine as it represents 'fame and fortune.' I chose this title as it is inspirational to the students and is a positive look on their future.

The OCR Media Course
we will be creating:
a 6th form magazine
a music magazine
and looking at t.v dramas
and the institution we will look at is the film industry.
Media Language
Can be written, verbal, non-verbal, aural and aesthetic communication.
Usually a combination of them all.
Form and Style
is the shape and structure and the combination of the 'micro' elements such as dialogue, sound effects and editing. the form of the text is instantly recognisable to the audience. e.g when you flick through the channels with only watching a few seconds you can tell which genre it is.
Conventions
The 'ingredients' of the particular form or genre. e.g period drama, a sub genre with a range of necessary ingredients which are expected by the audience, making conventions 'contractual' in nature, for example the cups, furniture, clothing, cars used for that period of time.
Signification
Everything we see in a sign carries a meaning. There is two types: signifier and signified.
signifier- the one most people can recognise and agree on (denotation) e.g skull and cross bones
signified- the more complex individual meanings that people give signs (connotation) e.g seeing skull and croos bones as danger or pirate sign.
De-constructing signs for what they might signify, the meaning is always polysemic (every signifier has a different meaning to different peoplle e.g hollister branding.
Representation
How the text represents reality. Media students are taught how to de-construct representations at the 'macro' level.
Audiences
Simplest way of analysing is looking at the target audience but to look in more detail you would also look at the secondary audience.
Narrative and Genre
News is presented through a particular structure. narrative describes the process of balancing what we actually see and hear. it is fundamentally to do with order, usually linear, and the relationships between information and mystery. Genre is the type of text. there is also now hybrid fusions which is 2 enres formed as one e.g Scary Movie.
Creativity
The ability to use digital technology's to make meaning so that the audience can respond easily to the text and the ability to engage and interest the audience.
Connecting the Micro to the Macro
Verisimilitude-does it look real?
this is where the micro (the little things) e.g th clothing, furniture and glasses etc. build up the image of it making the program look real, so therefore is making a macro representation.
Multimodal Literacy
Media literacy is changing in the context of web 2.0 technologies. As the technology allows us to read and write and create in new ways, so the theories we need to understand these to adapt.
